How to Mod Star Wars: Empire at War

(Referred to as SWEAW or EAW in the modding community)

This simply will teach you how to install mods into your SWEAW game, where you can choose to play the stock (shipped) version or the mod you installed.
Quite simple, really:
  1. Get Admin permissions if not an Admin on Vista/7 machines.
  2. Go to your SWEAW directory (ex. C:/Program Files/Lucasarts/Star Wars Empire at War)
  3. According to the readme instructions posted with your mod, do what must be done.

How to Mod Star Wars: Empire at War: Forces of Corruption Expansion Pack

(Referred to as FoC in the modding community)

FoC is much easier to mod than SWEAW. Simply, you need (with admin privileges on Vista/7 computers) to create a folder in the FoC directory (ex. C:\Program Files\Lucasarts\Star Wars Empire at War Forces of Corruption).

  1. Go to the FoC directory
  2. Create a new folder called "mods", "Mods", or "MODS". Anything called mods. "Mods" and "mods" are known to work.
  3. Per mod's readmes, install wherever it tells you to (usually in the "Mods" folder).
  4. The End! Simply create a shortcut to swfoc.exe on your desktop. Go into Properties, and on the Shortcut tab change the line to add at the end of the quotation marks as follows:
    1. "C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Empire at War Forces of Corruption\swfoc.exe" MODPATH=Mods\SSDmod
    2. The MODPATH part tells the shortcut where the folder with your mod is.
    3. The SSDmod part is the name of the folder.
    4. This shortcut system is much faster and safer than the .bat files some mods include. Bat files are inherently dangerous and the wrong ones can place viruses etc. on your computer.
  5. To mod your mods (ADVANCED) go to the XML files in your mod's folder and open them with Notepad (XMLNotepad is better, it's from Microsoft)
